Videosift 5.0 Request: Allow block of user Avatars

@BoneRemake, I have nothing against you, but in the last 6 months or so, you have cycled through some of the most disturbing images for your avatar. Today, I surf to VS, and have the pleasure to have a blue cock (literally a bulging blue crotch) staring me in the face. I'm not so much offended as disgusted at the tasteless image. It takes all the fun out of going through the comments; I'd rather just go somewhere else.

It's not my right to dictate what you have as an avatar, tasteless or not, but @dag, is there a way to block any or all avatars? And by block, I mean make it so I cannot see them.

I like phallic symbols of man hood, be it fertility gods of yesteryear, Egyptian stone work with massive boners or banana hammocks beautifully exhibiting a nice body. There is no penis in my avatar, there is a swimsuit. I like your idea of censoring yourself based on ones own prudentials, thats actually a pretty good idea for all the minorities on the site.

Official statement : because of the terrible christian oppressive regime as it exists in all culture, I have changed my avatar to an orange in a g-string. Hopefully the raw foodists dont have a problem.

Not a christian, and I can understand that some people like bulging cocks. It's just not my thing. If you want to stare at and share cock photos all day, fine; I just want the ability to opt out.

Thank you for changing to an orange. I sincerely appreciate it.

There's various ways to do this yourself I'd imagine. You could search for software that allows you to block images of a certain size. I'd bet there is a Firefox extension for this.

Browser add-ons such as AdBock or AdBlock+ have options for creating custom filters. The custom filter can be as specific as you need it to be. For example, you can block all images of all types on all pages or just certain ones on individual pages. Finding the right balance will involve trial and error but it should give you what you are looking for.

The ad blocker privoxy would allow you to do this. You can choose to only block images which match the pattern of http://videosift.com/avatars and use the replacement image of your choice. I have even found one which would appear to meet your requirements - http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauratrevey/3776628636/

My VS 5.0 feature request is the ability to upvote or downvote avatars. The orange in particular would get my upvote

I'd like to request a feature that turns all the VS avatars I see into bulging, blue cocks. Thanks.

Maybe the people who like blue bulging crotches could install an addon instead, which changes avatars into those pictures? That way you can have any freaky fetish you like displayed to you, and not impose it on everyone else.

Just to redefine what I was trying to say here...

I think it would be kind of neat to see not only member's avatars, but the avatars they've had in the past. While some people change their avatar every time the wind blows, other people only change it once in a blue moon.

In both examples, it would be interesting to have a way to see an archive of a member's past Avatars. Take mine for example, I use a Mandalorian (Boba Fett's) helmet. I have had three or four variations of the helmet since joining. It would be neat to see that progression, and possibly a chance to revert back to any of my vintage avatars.

That being said, sometimes conversations pop up over some people's avatars, then the person changes it for some reason or another, and poof the conversation left behind doesn't make sense. Imagine the comment "Wow, that's the best avatar ever!" And then imagine, they switch the avatar, a month down the road to a CareBear. You read the comment, and think, "Hey that avatar sucks, what are they talking about, you can click on their legacy avatars and see that they did, at some point have some really cool avatars.>> ^Sagemind:

What I would like to see is the progression of avatars that people have had in the past.
It would be extremely helpful in discussions like these as well as being fun to see past avatars.
